When was our present pier built? There is no stamp or postmark on this card which might give us a clue, but the long skirt on the lady strolling on the pier with her parasol suggests the early years of the last century. In 1905 the St. Thomas Evening Journal refers to a new breakwater which was to be built in Port Stanley, and an unpublished Canadian Hydrographic Service survey carried out in 1909 shows the breakwater which is shown in this photograph.
