Rail Ferry Marquette and Bessemer No.1
There were three rail ferries named the Marquette and Bessemer which carried coal cars between Conneault, Ohio and Port Stanley in the early years of the last century. All 3 were very similar in appearance. The Marquette and Bessemer Number Two sank, probably just off Port Stanley, in December of 1909. Many tales are told locally of that night. The remains of the ship have never been found. And to confuse the issue further, the third version of the Marquette and Bessemer was named the Marquette and Bessemer Number Two.
