Rail Yard Looking East
Rail Yard Looking East
An early view of Port Stanley on a postcard bearing a 1913 postmark.
The grain elevator on the west side of the harbour has not yet been built.
The building, in the foreground is the Franklin House Hotel.
It is interesting to note, as we can in so many postcards from
this era, the lack of vegetation on the hills surrounding the village. Also of note is the deep cleft in the hill to the east
of the village. The building to the right of this cleft was probably the Liberty Hill Club. And note the Ice Cream
Parlour at the west end of the bridge where the Port Stanley tourist office stands today.
By 1913, Port Stanley had become an important summer destination for cottagers and visitors.
