Valley Vista and Orchard Beach

Valley Vista and Orchard Beach

This postcard shows a very early view of Orchard Beach, the area to the east of Kettle Creek and the main village.   The dirt road on the left side of the postcard was originally named Victoria Street.  It later became Harrison Place.

One of the white cottages on this postcard was situated just west of Little Creek (the band of trees shown in the center of this postcard) and was owned by the Darch family of London.

Hundreds of feet of land have been lost to erosion since this photo was taken.   All the lakeshore cottages which were built after this photograph was taken had to be moved north from the lake again and again.

My mother was Alice Darch.  I spent all my boyhood summers living in our lakeshore summer cottage on Orchard Beach.
